This plaque commemorates my father Francesco Maone (1905-1952), who was an official in the Neapolitan Federation of the Italian Communist Party and secretary of the Alliance of the Peasants of Southern Italy. A few months after his death, due to a brain hemorrhage suffered while speaking at a rally in Irsina (near Matera), the communists of his native village of Savelli, in the province of Crotone, named the local cell of the Party after him. |
